"Makeshift director Steve Sale‘s debut film Superhero Me took this year’s onedotzero ‘adventures in motion festival’ into the realms of the domestic – the very domestic. In his DIY documentary Sale takes the law into his own rubber-gloved hands as he scours the globe (mostly via the world wide web) in a hilarious attempt to make a bona-fide superhero (as well as a bit of an ass) of himself. The criteria are as follows: look good in spandex; learn self-defence; get a costume; a secret lair, some gadgets and a vehicle." Read more

“To his own surprise, Sale discovers there are many other real life superheroes. The reclusive Captain Ozone, for instance, a "time-traveller" who uses a petrol-powered chainsaw to make environmental fossil-fuel conservation points. Entomo from Naples, who fights crime on the streets, opens the doors to many other superheroes, a very large family. Funniest of all is Angle Grinder Man, a deliciously anarchic scourge of parking clamps - he has a hilarious answerphone message.” Read more

"This zero-budget documentary (okay, we can assume that director/star Steve Sale had some of his own money but barely enough to buy Spielberg a bagel) aims to provide us with a look at what it takes to be a superhero and the hypothesis that it is, in fact, a very real dream. Even if you don’t have any super-abilities or come from an alien planet." Read more

What people are saying about Superhero Me...

Superhero me is a funny but thought provoking account of how to become a superhero. What does it take to be a superhero? Guts, sense of humour and a genuine concern for others. The film ‘Superhero Me’ took us from a dream to a real life possibility of being a superhero in Epsom and Sutton. Inspiration was gained from superheroes in America and Naples. At heart it tells the story of a local boy living his dream, the fun and difficulties of becoming a superhero and perhaps finding out that life as a superhero is tough. A good film, good story and amazingly made with no film equipment!

A most unusual but very entertaining film.
It kept your attention by continually introducing real life eccentrics and then feeding off them to create a sense of fun, tinged at times with fear for SOS's safety and concern for a side of Orlando that is never mentioned.
This film has the potential to become a cult classic.'

Superhero Me was a hilarious film and I hope that SOS doesn't give up being a superhero because I would like to have a ride on his scooter and want to learn to fly like him because I'm going to be a superhero when I grow up.

I was recently given the opportunity of viewing a very funny film at the cinema, called Superhero Me.
A young man actually dressed up as a superhero called SOS and was prepared to aid anyone in trouble.
Some of the situations were very funny but also could have been very dangerous.
He eventually needed transportation and to see him on a charged bicycle peddling along the main road was hilarious!
He even interrupted his honeymoon to visit another superman in America who had broken every bone in his body through his exploits.
That wasn't funny and put a more serious concept on what SOS was doing, however overall it was hilarious and was a complete dedication to an idea which made extremely good viewing.

Superhero Me is a delightful and often hilarious film.
It tells the story of a search for contemporary superheroes, and the creation of local superhero, SOS.
The film has locations in Epsom, Sutton and other local areas as well as Italy and Orlando, Florida.
Superhero Me is an entertaining film which is well worth watching.

The film Superhero Me was shot on the run, on mobile phones, in fact by any means available.
It's full of humour and quirky characters who like, SOS, want to do good in the world.
The section I found most absorbing was; two days into his honeymoon, SOS flew without his wife, to the US and was touched by the poverty of those who live on the streets.
Superhero Me is fresh and off the wall.

I enjoyed Superhero Mebeing in the style of a documentary it was very funny when SOS was training to be a superhero and thought he was very brave walking the streets in his superhero suit, fighting crime and helping people.

The theme of Superhero Me was a good idea and made me laugh a lot especially when he was choosing his outfit.
I loved the completed one that he wore when he cycled along the streets looking to help people in trouble.

‘Superhero me’ transforms a child’s fantasy and transforms it into a real life adult situation. The potential super hero doesn’t have any special powers but he certainly has bravery. The film is genuinely funny but also manages to deal with difficult topics. It really gives you something to think about.
Could you be a super hero, yes you can!
